I’m on the 14-day challenge, and want to stay on the milky oats indefinitely! Although not really overweight, I’ve found that since menopause, I’ve slowly but steadily put in a few pounds. It’s a combination of muscle mass (I’m VERY active around our homestead) and fat gain. Try as I might, nothing worked to reduce the fat. Until the milky oats. In the most subtle and gentle way possible, they simply released my urge to take on more calories than I was using, and the results are already noticeable. I enjoyed the process of preparing my milky oats each day. It definitely felt like self love. It’s an alive product. I didn’t want to throw them in the trash but had a couple of freezing days- not wanting to trudge to the compost pile, I dumped them into a potted plant inside the house, in which they started to sprout! I had inconsistencies with the taste and color, but it was always enjoyable. it’s fairly cost prohibitive.. I noticed a boost in my mood the first several days. I started out using in the morning, forgot one night and switched the schedule to nighttime. Can’t say I noticed much that way. A very good ritual that I look forward to trying again. I would love to grow them. They are gorgeous and good medicine.

Shared some w a friend, she wasn’t as taken due to taste, but I am sold. It’s both soothing and refreshing, as I am unable to manage homeostasis when exposed to toxins, this is a lovely and gentle nervine. I began w milky oats years ago and was discouraged by my naturopath who could “find no evidence†for its effectiveness. I’m not sure where she looked, but at the time, I also ran out. I hadn’t found/run across any for a few years (3) until now.
To add more info (again), I’m very sensitive to the smallest quantities of… well, anything really. I can’t take any OTC and haven’t found a single pharmaceutical that hasn’t caused sideffects which are greater than whatever they’re meant to treat, not one (even most supplements I need a label and most I can’t tolerate).
So, I tried oats again, and again I’m impressed. I did my research all over and rediscovered that within some communities, milky oats are well known, respected and revered.
Also, my MLN (master lev nutritionist) has tried a few times to get me to take silica. I did mention I’m sensitive. I couldn’t tolerate any type, in any amount, for months of trying multiple forms on and off, despite tests showing I need it. And I’d tried it decades ago w similar effect. Having zero luck w her recommended brands tolerated by some ppl w MCAS, like myself, I failed over and over. I finally gave up and I found my jar of “horse tail†which I’ve taken on and off in small quantities before knowing what I was doing, but it was old, so I replaced it. It’s easier to take now that my naturopath has helped get me through some more extreme dietary changes (oxalates, avoidance, histamine triggers etc-way more than my well informed self had found out on my own). Now (we!)/I figured out whys and how’s of lowering my chronic inflammation and pain…I’ve helped my 85yo dad and 23yo child to do the same.
Today, with all my current supports in place and diet I can safely take small amounts of (this) horsetail and I’m moving through another phase of healing connective tissue instability and kidney health which are becoming gradually less prone to sluggishness/pain/and frequency issues….
…So I’m sold (again). But for me it was all about timing; everyone is different. I am ecstatic to be moving past another phase of managing my chronic health issues while many of my friends continue to struggle. By understanding that by partnering with the natural world and clearing out foods that (honestly aren’t food, and never were) supports well-being like no pharmaceutical yet to be found.
It’s work with a potentially big pay- off if you’re willing to stick with it, get good professional help, and be patient (and by all means: learn to listen to your body, bc good docs like mine even, will know they don’t know everything!)
