Nutrient Dense Soil – Lesson 3 Transcript

Homework:

Observing where our organic matter goes:

Make a household search to find where all the “organic matter” cycles through your life and home.

  • Where does the wasted or trimmed plant material from your groceries end up?
  • What organic matter ends up in your yard each year and where does it end up?
  • What material comes out of your lawn and garden cuttings and where does that go?

Making some of these observations will give you an idea of where some of the organic matter in our lives escapes into the landfill. Better to “close the loop” and recycle that mineral and micronutrient-rich material back into your soil through composting or a worm bin!

Finished compost from these composting methods creates the best amendments for your veggie garden.
