Homework:
Spend some time thinking about whether you are ready to make the commitment to keeping goats.
In specific, make sure you are comfortable knowing that you’ll be taking on the following responsibilities when you bring home goats.
- Daily Care
- Providing Shelter and Cleaning
- Providing Supplemental Feed and Minerals
- Parasite Management Activities
- Regular Breeding for Milk or Meat Production
- Occasional Consultations with Large Animal Veterinarians
- Legal Obligations Related to Livestock Laws
- Training Time
- Living with Normal Goat Behaviors (e.g. herd behavior, nibbling, etc.)
We’ll get into ways to make all these things easier in the rest of the series. But, even the easy methods require some expense, time, and the right disposition for working with goats.
